大型ヨット沈没、「英国版ビル・ゲイツ」リンチ氏ら行方不明 伊シチリア沖

【AFP＝時事】（更新）イタリア・シチリア（Sicily）島沖で19日未明、22人を乗せた大型ヨットが突然の暴風雨で沈没し、1人が死亡、英IT起業家のマイク・リンチ（Mike Lynch）氏（59）、金融大手モルガン・スタンレー・インターナショナル（Morgan Stanley International）のジョナサン・ブルーマー（Jonathan Bloomer）会長ら6人が行方不明になっている。
沈没したのは、英船籍で全長56メートルの大型ヨット「ベイジアン（Bayesian）」。シチリア島パレルモ（Palermo）の東に位置するポルティチェッロ（Porticello）沖に停泊していた。
シチリアの民間防衛当局はAFPに対し、15人が救助され、その中にリンチ氏の妻アンジェラ・バカレス（Angela Bacares）さんが含まれていたが、リンチ氏と娘のハナ（Hannah Lynch）さんは行方不明だと語った。
リンチ氏はIT分野で成功した起業家兼投資家で、「英国版ビル・ゲイツ（Bill Gates）」と呼ばれることもある。
沿岸警備隊によると、ヨットには乗員10人を含む22人が乗っていた。伊メディアの報道によると、大半は英国人で、乗客はリンチ氏の招待客だった。
イタリア当局は、今回の沈没について調査を開始した。
リンチ氏は自らが創業した英ソフトウエア企業オートノミー（Autonomy）を米コンピューター大手ヒューレット・パッカード（Hewlett-Packard）に売却した際、大規模な詐欺を働いたとして米国で起訴されていたが、サンフランシスコの裁判所は6月、全ての罪状で無罪を言い渡していた。
また、英保険会社ヒスコックス（Hiscox）は20日、行方不明者の中にモルガン・スタンレー・インターナショナルのブルーマー会長と夫人が含まれていると発表した。
同氏が昨年から会長を兼任するヒスコックスのグループ最高経営責任者（CEO）アキ・フセイン氏は声明で「この悲劇的な出来事に深くショックを受け、悲しんでいる」と述べた。

Like his former boss, Chamberlain had risen to the most senior ranks in the British tech world before his success was overshadowed by the long legal battle related to their time running one of the UK’s most prominent startups.
The collision occurred on Saturday morning on the A1123 Newmarket Road, north of Cambridge. Chamberlain’s lawyer said he had been “fatally struck” by a car while running. He was taken to hospital and put on life support, and his death was announced late on Monday.

As the public feud between Hewlett-Packard and Autonomy's former CEO Mike Lynch heats up, more details are emerging on the man and the corporate culture he built at before HP spent $11.1 billion to acquire it.
Some of it is fun. Much of it is harsh.
For instance, Lynch was a fan of fictional spy James Bond and peppered the office, and his life, with Bond references. He named Autonomy's conference rooms after Bond villains like Dr. No and Goldfinger, and he drove a Bond-like sports car, an Aston Martin.
He also stocked a fish tank in the reception area of the Cambridge headquarters with piranhas. The vicious fish were featured in the 1967 Bond film You Only Live Twice.

Thomas Bayes (/beɪz/ BAYZ audioⓘ; c. 1701 – 7 April 1761[2][4][note 1]) was an English statistician, philosopher and Presbyterian minister who is known for formulating a specific case of the theorem that bears his name: Bayes' theorem. Biography
Thomas Bayes was the son of London Presbyterian minister Joshua Bayes,[6] and was possibly born in Hertfordshire.[7] He came from a prominent nonconformist family from Sheffield. In 1719, he enrolled at the University of Edinburgh to study logic and theology. On his return around 1722, he assisted his father at the latter's chapel in London before moving to Tunbridge Wells, Kent, around 1734. There he was minister of the Mount Sion Chapel, until 1752.[8]
