アフリカ・ナイジェリアで、クリスマスに合わせて行われたイベントに子どもが殺到し、少なくとも35人が死亡しました。
地元メディアなどによりますと、ナイジェリア南西部イバダンで18日、クリスマスに合わせて行われたイベント会場に人が殺到し、少なくとも35人の子どもが死亡、6人が重傷だということです。
イギリスBBCは、主催者が5000人の子どもに現金を配布することや来場者に無料で食事を提供するとしていたため、人が殺到したと報じています。
当局はイベントの主催者ら8人を逮捕し、捜査しています。

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Several children have died during a stampede on Wednesday at a holiday funfair in southwestern Nigeria, authorities said.
The incident happened at the Islamic High School in Basorun, Oyo State, near the economic hub of Lagos. Security forces attended the scene and arrested the event organizers, state governor Seyi Makinde said in a statement.
“Earlier today, an incident occurred in Islamic High School Basorun, the venue of an event organised for families. Sadly, a stampede at the venue has led to multiple loss of lives and injuries. This is a very sad day,” Makinde said.
“We sympathise with the parents whose joy has suddenly been turned to mourning due to these deaths,” he added.
Nigeria’s national emergency services said it has deployed a team to help provide assistance to the victims.
Children injured at the venue were taken to local hospitals where parents were asked to check for missing persons.
Video footage that appeared to be from the scene showed a large crowd of mostly children looking on as some children were being carried away from an open field.
Local media identified the event organizers as the Women In Need Of Guidance and Support Foundation, which held a similar event for children last year.

Police arrested eight individuals connected to the event, including the primary organizer, Naomi Silekunola, and the school principal.[1][2] The organizing body of the event, The Women In Need Of Guidance and Support Foundation, faced immediate scrutiny over their role in the tragedy.[3]
President Bola Tinubu ordered a comprehensive investigation, and expressed condolences to affected families.[2] The case was subsequently transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, and was placed under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police.[1]
Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, issued a statement expressing condolences to affected families, promised to support any community healing and grieving efforts, and offered support to his former wife Olori Naomi Silekunola. He acknowledged her history of organizing similar charitable events in Ile Ife during her time as queen and encouraged that such charitable events continue with improved safety measures.[1]
